POSITION: Attendance and Welfare Officer

SALARY: £13,453-£16,245

BENEFITS: Pension, Term time only working, Flexible working and other excellent benefits (see below)

HOURS: 3 days per week (21 hours), term time only 12 month fixed-term post with potential to extend

LOCATION: Birmingham B33 9SB

DESCRIPTION:

Established in 2015, our clientis an Independent Education Welfare Service offering schools, guidance, advice and direct work in raising whole school attendance and improving outcomes for pupils and their families across the Midlands area.

Due to continued success the organisation is seeking to recruit a field based Attendance and Welfare Officer. The successful candidate will provide a range of interventions including strategic support and casework to allocated schools to improve school attendance and reduce persistent absence.


JOB ROLE:

 

  • To visit allocated schools/settings regularly and provide guidance and support to staff, parents, carers and pupils in accordance with service agreements negotiated with the school. 

  • To respond to referrals from allocated school/settings and undertake direct case work including home visits (cold-calls) to follow up attendance concerns. 

  • To undertake targeted pieces of work such as late gates and attendance blitz in accordance with service level agreements. 

  • To provide schools and settings with expert advice, guidance and challenge in relation to school attendance and the legislative framework. 

  • To contribute pro-actively to relevant areas of school policy and planning including the development of a whole school attendance policy.

  • To undertake all preparatory work and applications for legal action in relation to non-school attendance in line with the relevant Local Authority's process and procedures. 

  • To provide statements and give evidence to court as required in non- school attendance cases. 

  • To advise and support schools in the use of attendance data for the monitoring and management of school attendance. 

  • To be alert to indicators of abuse or neglect and follow child protection procedures, as appropriate, including making Child Protection referrals and contributing to child protection plans. 

  • To provide child protection advice, information and support to school staff.

  • To make referrals, liaise and collaborate in joint work with other practitioners.

  • To maintain appropriate records, prepare assessments and reports, and provide statistics as required.


THE IDEAL CANDIDATE:
 

  • Experience in a similar role would be an advantage.

  • Be able to adhere to existing working practices, methods, procedures, undertake relevant training and development activities and to respond positively to new and alternative systems.

  • Be able to maintain confidentiality and observe data protection.

  • Have excellent communication skills and be able to communicate at all levels.

  • Be able to comply with all health and safety and safeguarding.

  • Be flexible to travel to various schools and home visits, a driving licence and access to a car would be beneficial.

The successful candidate will provide a range of casework interventions under the direction of the organisation's Attendance and Welfare Officer to support improving attendance and reducing Persistent Absence for targeted groups.


JOB ROLE:

 

  • To undertake direct casework including home visits (cold-calls), and direct work with pupils to support individual pupil's attendance improvement plans under the direction of the allocated Attendance and Welfare Officer. 

  • To undertake targeted pieces of work such as small group work with parents and pupil's late gates and attendance blitz. 

  • To complete written case records of all interventions in line with policy and procedures. 

  • To advise and support schools in the use of attendance data for the monitoring and management of school attendance.
